"The Effect is Electrifying. This impassioned staging is worth seeing for the important questions it raises and tries to answer, and how it pries open an issue that has until recently remained firmly closed."

Workshop Description

This workshop series teaches to the style and performance approach of Not Man Apart’s signature physical theatre productions, imparting our creative shorthand to potential company members so that they are equipped with tools for rapid creation in rehearsal and dynamic presence in performance. We will utilize many of our training components that combine elements of Viewpoint work, Contact Improvisation, dynamic partnering, Fluid Systems, body mechanics, Meyerhold, voice and breath, clown and comedy, and our very own Stick Work practice for energy delivery and building power.

Part Dance, Part Theater, Part Fun, Part Abandon.

We will cover a deep examination of Kin-aesthetic Energy and how it can instantly spark creation and inform improvisation.  The focus will be to amplify skills and develop a practice of anticipating, reading and partner dancing with energy. Participants will be guided to feel deeply into another body to sense presence and intention with expanded awareness.  Sharing weight and partnering through elements of Contact Improvisation and acrobatics leads to a safe understanding of rich, free self-expression in partnership.

Entire Workshop Series: $250
